Don't be mislead.  If your insurance company instructs you to call a 1-800 number to report your claim, in some cases you will actually be talking to a glass network, not your insurance company.  The glass conglomerate that owns and operates that network may in fact represent themselves as the insurance company and attempt to "steer" you to their own shops.  The temptation to steer jobs is so widespread that there are presently lawsuits throughout the country seeking to bar this kind of coercion.

    The auto glass network may tell you:

    ...the glass shop you request is not on their list of "approved shops".

   ...that if you don't use a shop on their list you may not have a warranty.
